My posts are almost always serious.......but tonight was just plain fun.
Tonight some girlfriends invited me along to see "Mamma Mia", which came out today. This film was great fun! Yes, it was campy. It was supposed to be. But we had such a wonderful time at this movie. If you have a group of girlfriends, or if you are a guy that likes to hang out with female friends, grab a bunch and head to the theatre! (in our theatre - which was full - I counted maybe 6 men! I suppose if you're a single guy this might be a good place to meet chicks..?)
Here is my movie advice so that you can enjoy this event to the fullest.....before you go, make sure pack something you can pull out and use as a mic (a hairbrush will do) so that you can sing along to all the classic Abba hits. They have those echo mics at the Dollar Tree for a $1. I know because I have both bought and used them! That would work and you will be a professional amidst the crowd of amateurs. Download the Abba classics and brush up on the lyrics so you can truly sing, and not just mumble along. Leave your inhibitions behind and sing out at the top of your lungs to "Mamma Mia", "Dancing Queen", "Waterloo" and "Take a Chance on Me". Be ready to laugh and clap along and generally act a bit silly. I had a hard time not getting up and dancing around. If you really want to create a memory, work out a dance routine to some of these classics BEFORE you go so you can dance your way out of the theatre with your friends or get out in the aisles when the music is playing. And can I just say that this movie makes me not only want to run dancing down the street with my friends, but also go to Greece to do it? Yes, it was a movie that made me feel good.
As a worship leader and a creator of not only worship experiences but also "team building experiences", I have always worried about running out of good, unique ideas. I'm always looking for new ideas and inspiration anywhere I go and in anything I do. Let's just say I was inspired tonight in fresh new ways for some team building activities. :) For those of you who have seen the results of my overactive imagination in the past and lived to tell about it (and later watch yourself on video too) you may wonder how much higher we can fly. Well, get ready to have some fun! We're gonna shoot for the stars!
Isn't it funny how inspiration strikes us? I think it strikes me most often when I let go, relax and quit trying to think something up......
So, if you like funny, campy musicals and love to sing along in movie theatres, go see this movie. But take a friend who promises to sing with you. It just wouldn't be as fun by yourself. And be prepared for a whole new way of looking at Pierce Brosnan. I may never be able to watch him in a James Bond movie again.
**here's my disclaimer - yes, the story line is one of past promiscuity. There is one bare rear scene (male) and one implied homosexual relationship along with some sexual humor. I would not take a young teen to see this and I am not - of course - endorsing any of these above listed items. But there was hardly any language at all and it was cleaner than most sitcoms on tv at night with the exception of the rear shot, which was very brief. As always, read about it before you go. It is rated PG-13 and the only reason I can even imagine it was rated this is the one naked rear view and some sexual references, which did not include any bad language that I can remember. It was however, a very refreshing movie to me. For one thing, a woman older than me fell in love! That's new! **
I enjoyed it so much I'm going back Sunday with my mom!
